Literature Text

Are you fearful of the end? A bottomless pit of nothingness, the cold, dark, silence, oblivion… pushing up daisies from six feet under. Are you?

Don’t be.

Why should you feel such animosity to something as graceful as a delicate ballet dancer moving a crowd? What would life be without its opposite, nemesis and best friend? To bring beauty, charm, dreams, love in bucket loads every… god… damned… second, you need a comparison and no-one does it better, without a moan or shed tear, than it with a scythe.

I’m far from scared of Death. It would be futile to be so. I can smell its sweet earthy aroma, it’s close, been in my shadow since I screamed my way into this world. No-one knows me better, my secrets, fears, dreams, and when it comes for me, I’ll happily walk stage-left into its warm, understanding arms.

I’m ready.

Content.

But I’m oh so greedy.

I want more.

There’s so much heart and soul in this blue planet; an ageless tree full to the brim with countless blossoms dancing to the wind, a tiny swallow fluttering to and fro and serenading the birth of a new day, emotions (every single one), smiles, kisses, hugs (the biggest), sun rays warming, rain drops playing their beat, dreamy fog, bright white snow, lazy sleep, waking up again, photography, music, film, literature, and countless others, more than there are stars twinkling in the great above, right down… to the perfect laugh of a loved one.

I’m going to live.

A few thoughts on my friend, death.

What I liked about this poem was that you did a contrast in between life and death. You mentioned that you don't feel fear towards death because it's inevitable and has been there with us since the day we were born. I have heard this idea in some way before from an older teacher of mine but that teacher never described it the way that you did. You explained your idea of life, and death. You brought attention to how death can be a beautiful thing, and that really made an impact on me. You've given a great perspective on both worlds for example, the warmth of death and the perfect laugh of a loved one. The piece ended on a rather positive note by mentioning that although death welcomes you and your ready, you realize the positives of life and say why you are going to live. The format of the poem was good, you used spacing to your advantage. You could have bolded or italicized words to make some words stand out and really grab the attention of your readers, although the words were thoughtful, and showed your emotions in some way. Thank you for writing this poem! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
